I've had weddings on the brain lately. I've been scoping photos and ideas lately for a friend so I've been thinking about everything weddings involve . When I was walking to dogs in the rain and sun (the weather could not make up its mind) I was listening to Pandora and heard several songs that would make great 1st dance songs. Of course I don't remember what they were, but it got me thinking about the song that got away.
I was one of those controlling brides. Eww I know, they're such bitches aren't they? Oh wait. I'd say I got about 90% of the wedding I set out to achieve. One of the things I had to relinquish control of was our first dance. Bryan picked the song. It was "Lost in this Moment" by Big and Rich. Yes it was the same dudes that sang "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" why do you ask? He's a Cowboy at heart.
Anyway, the song I was pushing for was "First Day of My Life" by Bright Eyes.
I seriously love the video too. I can't remember why it was vetoed, but the Man needed to contribute and he did. Everyone was happy.
My second choice was "Make You Feel My Love" by Bob Dylan. Here's a pretty cover of it by Adele. I'd still pick the Bob Dylan version. I love his scratchy voice.
What is or will be your song?

Your first dance in Mexico was wonderful... cowboy-themed or not! Ours was "Into the Mystic," but you were there... so maybe you already knew that!
ReplyDeleteIf we hadn't had the steel drum band at our wedding - We would have picked Prince's "Dimonds and Pearls." We wanted to try and bring a little MN to FL. It ended up being Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" because the band could play it.
ReplyDeleteoh and PS, I'm going to post a few wedding teaser pics on my blog today!
ReplyDeleteI want Dale and I to dance to "It Had To Be You" sung by Rod Stewart at our 50th wedding anniversary. (geez we're only 6 years from that...hope we can still dance!) I like gravely voices also.
ReplyDeleteI'm an oldie at heart, I guess (and getting there in real life too). I love The Nearness of You. By Ella or Sara Vaughan.
ReplyDelete~Jenifer
We had 3 songs I couldn't choose between - "You and Me" by Lifehouse, "We Are Man and Wife" by Michelle Featherstone and "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys.
ReplyDeleteWhat we ended up doing was to use "You and Me" for our processional, "We Are Man and Wife" for our first dance and "If I Ain't Got You" for the last dance. It worked out so well and we got to hear all of our gooey couple songs.
I love that version of "Make you feel my love"!! Philip and I danced to "I can't help falling in love" - The Andrea Bocelli version. That was the one thing Philip demanded as well. Ha ha. I wonder why out of all the things that go into the wedding, they guys want to choose the 1st dance song?
ReplyDeleteAnd in the spirit of music... here is our song for you to listen to! :-)

I'm partial to either 'The Blue Danube Waltz' by Strauss or 'O Sole Mio' as covered by Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies.
ReplyDeleteoooh how i like that first one! i actually changed the song that we were going to be dancing to the night before the wedding...by that point the boy didn't care anymore and was just ready to get the show on the road. but we danced to jason mraz and colbie callie's "lucky," i think it went over pretty well :)
ReplyDeleteI can't decide! I'm thinking about letting the fiance pick it out.
ReplyDeleteConsidering "I'll Stand By You" but I'm not sure if that's too cheesy.
i have to say, bright eyes was always way up there for me! i never knew it was for you too! i would have tried to make you use it. knowing josh, we'll be dancing to okkervil river... or bob dylan :)
ReplyDeleteI love that Adele version. I also love it by Garth Brooks!
ReplyDeleteOur first dance song was to "Forever" by Ben Harper. I adore it!
In case you don't remember... We danced to "Let's stay together" by Al Greeen. My fav right now though is "Lucky" by Jason Mraz & Colbie...Love that song!
ReplyDeleteChelsea- I had to go back and listen to Mystic, I couldn't remember how it went. I do however remember your awesome band and how well they sang "my humps". Too funny. Let's have a party and hire them again!
ReplyDeleteHanna- Oh I would have love to hear the steel drum version! We did have a little trio at our wedding, but I'm not sure I even heard them because we were doing pictures.
Diana- Ooh, that would be adorable. I'll help your daughter plan it. How do owl punches sounds?
Jenifer- Beautiful song! Really I like everything Norah Jones. Even her name.
Krysten- That's a great idea! Why didn't I think of that. We walked down the aisle so slooow to "At last" because I didn't want to edit it so I made everyone walk slow ;)
Mandy- That is a beautiful version. I hadn't heard it before. I don't know what is about men and music. Perhaps it's something wedding related they can actually understand!
Eric- Oh you're such a classic boy at heart. When you say by Me First, does that mean you like your own version best? Kidding kidding. I listened to it, don't worry.
Monique- Ha! We were buying our processional music the night before we flew out for our wedding. Sometimes last minute decisions are the best.
gringationcancun- That's the bummer of not having prom together...you have no song ;) I bet he'd like that special job. And "I'll stand by you" isn't cheesy. Especially if you listen to the lyrics.
Lauren- Oh sure you veto the dirty dancing finale for my first dance but support Bright Eyes?! ;) So glad you did. You need to have two first dances, and one needs to be Billy Joel.
Joi- I haven't heard it by Garth Brooks, I'll have to look it up. Forever is a great pic! I love anything that is mostly acoustic.
Katia- I do remember, and I remember they couldn't find the song you were walking back down the aisle to. BRIDEZILLA! kidding kidding.
Strangely, for someone like me who loves music, we didn't have a first dance song. We avoided the whole dance bit infact in favour of good food, chat and making sure my mother didn't make the official wedding photo's (It's a long story).
ReplyDeleteIf Mrs B and I have a song it's "Holding Back the Years" - Simply red (hate the man, love the voice).
Before I forget we went to a friends wedding and they had spent months finding the right band. After seeing them on 3 or 4 occasions they picked a jazz instrumental group.
ReplyDeleteDuring the build up they were really raving about the group. When they turned up they brought a singer with them, who really could not and should not have attempted to make any sound what so ever (I think she had been in prison during the times they had gone to see the band, for murdering songs would be my guess) It would have been hilarious if it had not completely ruined the reception for them. I had to keep going outside to dry my eyes and release the suppressed laughter.....
I'm hoping for Islands in the Stream -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lixDK_tMEhE.
ReplyDeleteBlackLOG- You owe Mrs. B a 1st dance. Maybe in your kitchen? She must not have been a bridezilla if she didn't kill the band!
ReplyDeleteCorazy- How much would you pay to have Dolly and Kenny sing it at your wedding?
For sure! But which one?! Uptown Girl was my song and my Nonni reminds me every time I see her. Ha! She's Always A Woman?! haha... sorry just trying to picture this.
ReplyDeleteLauren- Hmm....I'll have to do some research. There is a version of "make you feel my love" by Billy Joel! But you're going to need a Billy original.
ReplyDeleteUptown girl might work. You live in the city and Josh is from the midwest.
